Toyo Tires looks to tackle the
rough terrain of the CORR Lucas Oil Series
Indianapolis,
IN (January 3, 2005) -- It may be a first in off-road racing history.
With Toyo Tires joining the CORR Lucas Oil Series in 2005, the series now has
four tire manufacturers participating in the off-road racing series.
Although this will be Toyo’s
first venture into off-road racing, their history in racing includes sponsorships
in the NHRA, SCCA Club Racing, NASA, and UROC series. Undoubtedly, Toyo is looking
forward to the experience in off-road racing.
“We could not be more
excited to race in the series,” said Travis Roffler, Director of Marketing
with Toyo Tires. “We believe CORR is the premier off-road racing series
to test the traction and durability of our world class Open Country light truck
tires and we are looking forward to the challenge. In addition, in today’s
marketplace, a strong media buy is difficult to find. CORR brings 84 hours of
off-road television showcasing our products, this also provides excellent exposure
for the Toyo brand.”
The response from
the drivers has been tremendous, said Roffler. He believes they will have the
right tire to compete right away, and they will certainly be involved with teams
in 2005.
“I have been overwhelmed
by the positive reaction from the teams on our announcement of our involvement
in the series,” he said. “We are reviewing many proposals from interested
teams.”
Roffler is also excited
about the competition within the tire community. Not only does the CORR Lucas
Oil Series provide an environment unlike any other in terms of tire testing,
it brings out the best in all involved.
“Competition is good,
but winning is everything,” explained Roffler. “We are signing great
teams and we have great tires; that should be a winning combination. We believe
this will deliver great results.”
The decision to join CORR
was ensured when Roffler and Gregg Vandermark, the Manager of Performance Events
and Activities, attended the BorgWarner World Championships in Crandon, Wisconsin.
“I was amazed at the
attendance, the place was packed,” said Roffler. “Innovation through
competition, that is our philosophy. CORR provides incredible proving grounds
for our tires and racing helps us build a better tire for everyday use both
on and off-road.”
