The I-96 Speedway in Michigan highlights the
2005 CORR Lucas Oil Series Race Schedule
Indianapolis,
IN (January 6, 2005) -- With the addition of I-96 Speedway in
Lake Odessa, Michigan to the Championship Off Road Racing schedule, the schedule
for the 8th season of the CORR Lucas Oil Series has been completed, with 14
rounds of racing set for the 2005 season.
The I-96 Speedway
will open the 2005 CORR Lucas Oil Pro & Sportsman Series seasons May 21-22.
I-96 Speedway, which hosted a variety of off road events in the early 1990’s,
was recently purchased by Mike Mouch. The track is within driving distance of
three major Michigan cities.
“Quite frankly,”
stated CORR Event Director Nathan Roberts, “we were pleasantly surprised
when Mr. Mouch called inquiring about a possible date. I-96 is one of the closest
tracks to Detroit which is capable of running one of our events.”
The track will
be able to draw fans from the cities of Grand Rapids, Lansing, as well as Detroit.
The track is located approximately half-way between Grand Rapids and Lansing
“Our original
focus was on Indianapolis and Charlotte,” noted CORR President Marty Reid.
“When we realized the Indiana State Fairgrounds would be paving the infield
in 2006, it did not make much sense to invest one year at a site before being
forced to move again.”
“In Charlotte,
David Barker and his group ran into zoning road blocks as they attempt to re-open
Metrolina Speedway. We wish them well in their efforts and if they are successful,
we will look at Metrolina again in 2006,” said Reid.
Much of the success
of Championship Off Road Racing over the years can be attributed to the tracks
in Antigo (Wisconsin), Bark River (Michigan), and Crandon (Wisconsin). Combined,
the three towns have hosted off-road racing for more than 80 years. The Series
will visit Antigo June 11-12, Bark River on August 13-14, and Crandon will host
two events, June 25-26 and September 3-4.
In a change from
the customary Saturday and Sunday day events, Heartland Park Topeka will have
two night races for the series on Friday and Saturday, July 8-9.
The Unadilla Valley
Sports Center will conclude the Pro Series season September 17-18 in New Berlin,
New York. This will be the third season Unadilla will have the season finale
for the series.
