Round 1, 2005 SCORE Desert Series January 13-16 LAUGHLIN, NV (January 14, 2005) -- SCORE desert racing will begin its 32nd year Saturday in a spectacular way as a race-record 244 cars and trucks have officially entered the 11th Annual SCORE Laughlin Desert Challenge. Competing in 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks, entries have come from 13 U.S. States, Mexico, Canada, Australia and Japan. The unique two-day event will feature the racing classes split into seven different groups racing from two to five laps on an 11.8-mile course each day with the total elapsed time determining the overall finishing positions. Racing will start at 7 a.m. and finish at approximately 5 p.m. each day. The featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division will start at 3:35 p.m. each day, preceeded by the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel desert race cars at 2:20 p.m. The primary spectator area is the Laughlin Events Park in the shadow of the Laughlin resort area where the start/finish line is located as part of the stadium-style infieldportion of the race course along with the pits for each race team. Pre-race festivities concluded Friday afternoon with Martin Christensen's Class 10 team winning the SCORE Pit Crew Showdown in a time of 52.51 seconds in his Jimco-BMW. On Thursday evening Marty Coyne got things started by winning the SCORE Laughlin Leap Contest with a long jump of 157 feet in his Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck.
