Gear Vendors, Inc. join Championship Off Road Racing
as an Associate Sponsor in the 2005 CORR Lucas Oil Series
El
Cajon, CA (January 21, 2005) -- Gear Vendors, Inc., manufacturers
of the popular UNDER/OVERDRIVE brand of auxiliary transmissions have announced
associate sponsorship of the CORR Championship Off Road Racing series. Gear
Vendors 6-speed and 8-speed products are popular in Drag Racing, Muscle Cars,
High Performance Street Cars, Trucks, and RV’s.
The 25 year old California
based manufacturer has been competing in off road racing in Europe with GM and
Ford ProTrucks and has accumulated impressive Championships in the grueling
endurance events (Tunisian Rally, Master Rally, Qatar Rally, and 24hrs of France).
“We are very
excited to be participating in CORR,” said Rick Johnson, President of
Gear Vendors, Inc. “Nothing in off-road compares with the television coverage
of CORR on Speed Channel. We have won some great off-road events in Europe and
Africa, but none of our employees and few of our customers get to witness the
racing. With CORR, it will be in the family room every weekend. That is very
exciting.”
Gear Vendors expects to
improve performance and transmission reliability in CORR’s 850hp Pro Classes
and also give the Sportsman Class twice as many gears to take on the obstacles
and the competition.
“From a promotional
standpoint we are excited about CORR’s ability to demonstrate Gear Vendors
high horsepower handling and performance,” noted Johnson. “We have
a couple world records in drag racing, but that quarter-mile run does not show
the endurance of our product. CORR will visually demonstrate that endurance
to our customers who are putting us into their high horsepower street machine
or truck.”
The UNDER/OVERDRIVE is a
2-speed planetary gearbox that bolts to the vehicles existing transmission allowing
the driver a direct drive (1:1) or overdrive (1:1.286) option in any gear at
any moment. For the automatics the additional ratio means twice as many gears
with ½ the distance (close ratio) between each. For the manual transmission
the additional gear means choices of clutchless overdrive shifts and the ability
to go 28% deeper (higher numerical) rear end gearing without a loss of top speed.
“Gear Vendors is the
first to open the door in this market within our series, and we are more than
excited to have them come on board,” said Jamie Devney, Director of Marketing
with CORR.
As a spectator, Gear Vendors
expects you will hear the close ratio performance on the track and on Speed
Channel during coverage of the Lucas Oil CORR events. 6, 7, or 8 speed transmissions
are not just in Formula 1 any longer, Gear Vendors is ripping the dirt in the
off road racing.
“Gear Vendor product
warranties are unlimited in horsepower and abuse,” explained Johnson.
“What better way to show that than in a 850hp CORR truck launching off
a dirt jump and ripping a corner?”
