McCallum Takes “Fud Memorial 200”, Keller Second, Miller Third (March 11, 2005 ) -- The first of five races for the 2005 Corky McMillin Companies Superstition Championship Series was run Saturday March 5th at Plaster City West. The Mojave Desert Racing sanctioned off road race was run over a seven lap 28 mile course that proved to be extremely fast. The Class One cars of Shawn McCallum from Imperial took the green flag first, followed by Brent Miller from La Vern and Josh Waddell of Holtville. By the end of lap one, Waddell had a slight lead on time, but by lap two McCallum found his rhythm and set fast time of the race with a lap of 24min.32sec. and never looked back, taking the win with a time of 3hr.12min.51sec. averaging 58.8mph. Waddell (4:29:55) had troubles on lap 4 and slipped to third in Class One and tenth overall, while Miller (3:26:29) finished second in class but slipped to third overall being beaten for second overall via a very consistent run by Paul Keller (3:23:18) of El Cajon. All seven laps by Class 1600 winner Keller were within 30 seconds of each other. Class 1600 dominated the overall standings with four cars, besides Keller, the 1600 class had Garit Wallace of Redlands finish fourth overall. Ed Stout of San Clemente finished fifth and Joe Laff from Descanso eighth overall. Rounding out the overall top ten was Class 10 winner David Gardner from San Diego sixth, next came the Class 8 trucks of Jason Jernigan of Imperial seventh and David Bryan of Indio ninth. Other class winners included: Robert Buchanan of Nuevo Class 300, John Stevenson Class 5, Rick Poole from Blyth Class 9, Heidi Steele of San Clemente Class 1300 and Richard Reeves from Encinitas Class 1450. The next race for the 2005 Corky McMillin Companies Superstition Championship Series is the “King 250” Saturday April 23rd. Plaster City East.
