Heber, CA (August
24, 2005) -- For over a decade, the Scaroni family has set
the standard for excellence in the off-road racing scene. Incorporating
high integrity with positive family values, SMD Motorsports has placed
in motion a trend of distinction in the dirt. In 2003, Steve and his sons,
Matt and David,
captured the SCORE Baja 1000 victory after racing for 19 hours, 8 minutes
and 49 seconds. In 2004, SMD Motorsports won points championships in the Pro
Truck
series and both of the prominent desert racing series, SCORE and Best in
the Desert scoring an unprecedented Triple Crown Championship by the end of
the
season. No other off-road desert race team has ever reigned as champions
of all three championship racing series in one season.
During this past July, they
dominated the BITD McMillin Nevada 1000 with an impressive win, finishing
six hours ahead of the closest competitor, all the
while battling scorching triple-digit summer temperatures. Matt and David
have handled driving chores for Tom Watson who is out for the year with a bad
back
and have helped Tim Noe keep the Watson / Noe in the SCORE Class 12 points
lead for the year.
"Off-road racing is a passion that drives us to produce something extraordinary
out of the ordinary through hard work and dedication," comments team
owner -- Steve Scaroni.
After dominating the off-road Pro Truck racing
scene during the past two years, SMD Motorsports is pleased to announce they
have purchased a Dave Clark designed
Ford Trophy Truck. Formerly owned by Kyle Taylor. The #27 Trophy Truck will
debut at the SCORE Primm 300 race on September 10, 2005.
Already, ESPN2 has
plans to feature SMD Motorsport's most recent off-road
venture in a new television series called "Truck Stop." The segment
will be filmed at the SCORE Primm 300 race.
"We are ecstatic with the opportunity to showcase our new truck. We
have a dedicated motor sports team that provides us with a solid foundation
for success and our ability to deploy in all conditions is one of our team's
best attributes. SMD Motorsports will continue to strive towards championship
wins with our new Trophy Truck program," said Driver -- Matt Scaroni.
SMD
Motorsports has managed to build one of the most successful and well-respected
teams in the history of off-road racing. Discipline coupled with skillful
organization has yielded efficiency and performance that has become synonymous
with the
Scaroni family name. The transition to a trophy truck program will be seamless
for SMD Motorsports as they are considered a very serious contender in the
off-road desert racing game.
Many industry sponsors have already committed to
this new program and SMD Motorsports is negotiating with several top quality
companies for title sponsorship
for the remainder of the 2005 season, and moving into the 2006 season.
