Mark Handley / Solar Racing look forward to San Felipe
Mark Handley / Solar Racing prepare to head south across the Mexican
border to San Felipe in just a couple of weeks. The second race of
the SCORE International Off-Road Series takes place near the seaside
town of San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico. This is a favorite for
many of the race teams and fans. Last count was close to 300 teams
participating from around the world.
This will be Solar Racing's 4th attempt at this challenging desert
paradise. Although the course is just under 250 miles, the team has
yet to finish any of its attempts. Year 1 was literally two days
after acquiring the race truck. Alternator problems led to a DNF
(did not finish) due to not meeting checkpoint times, timed out
approximately race mile 130. Year 2 was a DNF due to catastrophic
motor issues. Out at race mile 50. Year 3 was competitive race
until the distributor gear on new motor shredded. Although the
part was replaced, still timed out approximately race mile 130.
Another DNF.
This year however holds high expectations for the Solar Racing Team.
With continued chase and pit support from ACE Motorsports and the long
time sponsors such as Goodyear, Bilstein, National Springs, and Strider
Knives, as well as other sponsors like Insurance4Mexico.com, the Bay
Club Hotel, Spectrum Assembly and Help-U-Sell, the Solar Racing Team
plans on a very competitive season. This year however holds high expectations for the Solar Racing Team.
