NO BREAK FOR MOSS BROTHERS IN SAN FELIPE
At this time of year, many Americans head for Baja Mexico for
a Spring Break vacation, but the Bishop, CA based SCORE Class
3 champion Moss brothers are on their way to San Felipe this
weekend in search of their 21st SCORE class win. The 1979
Ford Bronco Class 3 entry has won the SCORE San Felipe 250
for the last four years. The Moss brothers, Don and Ken,
along with about 360 other racers from 20 states and several
countries will be competing in the 20th Tecate SCORE San Felipe 250
on Saturday, March 11. This race is the second in the 6 race SCORE
desert racing series and will challenge racers to successfully
navigate thru the base of the San Pedro Martir Mountains and
numerous washes, before traversing the 27 miles known as
'Matomi Wash' and then ending with a 9 mile stretch of rock
strewn turns overlooking the Sea of Cortez. The 240 mile
course is the same one that the team conquered in 2005 and
finished in just under 7 hours. "It's a rough course each
year, especially with our short wheelbase and heavy weight
and they always want to send us through 30 miles of whoops
right at the start, which our Bronco just hates……not to mention
the drivers," commented Don Moss. His brother Ken added, "If we
hit these whoops just a little too fast, we get major air time
and there are not usually many options to get around them.
However, I like coming to this race as we usually have lots of
time for tacos and we are done racing before dark." Ken is usually
driving the Bronco after dark, so this is a break for him. "Oh,
another thing, Don always kills off the competition before I get in
so I have to chase other class cars down."
The Moss Brothers #300 entry will be sporting new King coil over shocks
to compliment the new radius arms from westcoastbronco.com that were
installed just before the Laughlin race, making the ride and articulation
much better. The Moss Brothers are the current points leaders and will be
racing with two other entries in this race in Class 3. The brothers are also
still in the running for the end of the year Toyota Milestone Award.
Racing begins in San Felipe at 6 am on Saturday, March 10 with a 10-hour time
limit to complete it.
