SMD Motorsports Scores Top-10 Class Finish in Terrible's Town 250

Pahrump, Nev. (May 3, 2006) - Heber, Calif.-based SMD Motorsports scored its first top-10 of the year with a seventh-place class finish in the Terrible's Town 250, the second truck event of the 2006 Best in the Desert series. SMD Motorsports fields the No. 27 Ford F-150 Trophy Truck, piloted by owner Steve Scaroni, his two sons, Matt and David, and driver/crew chief Tom Geviss. The team finished 23rd overall out of 131 vehicles in 4:50:30.

"Although we placed toward the top, it was a tough day at the races, " said David Scaroni. "We were contending for the lead and win before our alternator failed prior to the third pit and then an air hose fitting malfunctioned. We were fast while we were moving, we just weren't moving all the time."

The eighth-annual Terrible's Town 250, dubbed "the Richest Off-Road Race in Nevada" due to its $40,000 purse, followed a 250-mile loop, starting North of Pahrump and finishing at the Terrible's Town Casino right off Highway-160. John Herder was the overall winner of the event finishing in 4:01:29. Garron Cadiente won the Trophy Truck class finishing in 4:03:19.

"After the kind of day that we had, we will take the finish," said Steve Scaroni. "It certainly could have been worse. I'm proud of the team. There is a lot to be happy about. We overcame some obstacles and, when we were racing, we were very fast."

Through two races, SMD Motorsports currently sits in seventh place in the points standings with 134 points, only 24 points behind leader Pete Sohren.

The next race on the 2006 Best in the Desert series is the 10th annual TSCO "Vegas to Reno" race, the longest off-road race in the United States (more than 600 miles), August 24-26, 2006. SMD

Motorsports, based in Heber, Calif. won the 2003 SCORE Baja 1000 in the Protruck division. They captured three wins in 2004, as well as the Protruck championship and the points championship in both the SCORE and Best in the Desert series - an unprecedented Triple Crown!
