2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 and Tecate SCORE Baja 500 To be telecast on NBC in U.S.; ESPN International Worldwide LOS ANGELES — SCORE International, the World’s foremost desert racing sanctioning body, announced today the upcoming broadcast program for the 39th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 and 38th Tecate SCORE Baja 500. For the third consecutive year, NBC will broadcast a one-hour special of the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000. This year, NBC plans to expand its coverage to include another one-hour program focusing on the Tecate SCORE Baja 500. Both programs are scheduled to air in December 2006. In addition to coverage on a major national network, the 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 and the 2006 Tecate SCORE Baja 500 will also be telecast worldwide on ESPN International and be shot in high- definition for distribution on an HD cable network. “This is absolutely incredible, even phenomenal news for SCORE and we sincerely thank Aura360 for all of their efforts in securing these agreements,” said Sal Fish, SCORE President/CEO. “These TV deals are unprecedented in our sport and will project SCORE desert racing to an even higher level of recognition than ever before in our 32-plus-year history. And, on top of all these significant benefits, we are extremely excited about the prospects of all the new fans these telecasts will help develop for SCORE.” The legendary Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 and Tecate SCORE Baja 500 attract adventurers from around the world. Held annually in the treacherous and unforgiving Mexican peninsula, these world famous desert races average nearly 350 entries from 30 States and a dozen countries each year. The grueling course runs through villages along the peninsula luring over 200,000 spectators. Little more than half of the racers finish this incredible ’test of man and machine’ where mechanical failures and vehicle rollovers are part of the ride. In addition to the premiere broadcast of the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 on NBC, the SCORE desert racing series will continue to reach out to mainstream audiences through the new agreement with ESPN International. The programs featuring the Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 and the Tecate SCORE Baja 500 will be distributed throughout the world through ESPN International’s networks in Latin America, the Caribbean Islands, Australia, New Zealand, Pacific Islands, Africa, Middle East, and Israel, reaching a total of 22 million households. On the 2005 Tecate SCORE Baja 1000
Aura360, SCORE’s Television production partner, produced the two-hour program, “The Baja Unlimited” for Discovery Networks. The entire production was shot and edited in high definition and will air on Discovery Theater HD on Monday, May 29 at 8 p.m. The DVD explores the racers and riders that make this dangerous race so compelling and captures behind-the-scenes “reality-style” moments of camaraderie and competition. “This is our most comprehensive SCORE Baja 1000 production to date and we’re very proud of the final product,” said Rufus Frost, co-founder of Aura360. “Our lead producer Cathy Cooper and the whole team spent months editing a tremendous amount of footage to create an exceptional show.”
