WHAT:
38th Annual Tecate SCORE Baja 500 Desert Race
Round 3, of the six-race 2006 SCORE Desert Series

WHEN:
Thursday, Friday, Saturday & Sunday June 1-4, 2006

WHERE:
Ensenada-Baja California, Mexico (65 miles south of U.S./Mexico Border)

WHO:
Race-Record 430+ entries from 28 U.S. States, Mexico, Canada, Colombia, New Zealand, France & Japan

COURSE:
TOTAL MILEAGE: 424.29 miles (5 checkpoints). Starts in downtown Ensenada adjacent to the Riviera Cultural Center and finishes at Campo de Softball Jose Negro Soto stadium, 11th & Espinoza, in the heart of Ensenada. Starting and finishing in Ensenada, this year’s tight and technical course will run in a clockwise direction, running East into the middle of the peninsula, then South, followed by a West travel section, turning north, then East, North and back West for the final charge back into Ensenada. The course travels in a clockwise direction for the first time since 2003, with the first 28.50 miles from the start to Ojos Negros being used both ways. From Ojos, the course heads Northeast to the Pine Forest. After looping through the Pine Forest, the course heads due South, paralleling Highway 3 through El Rayo (rm99.54) and Santa Catarina (rm140.24) and along the infamous Goat Trail before merging into Highway 3 south just after K117, rm161.56 to run on pavement to K138, rm173.84. The course then heads Southwest and up and around Mike’s Sky Rancho, rm193.70, and back down around through Rancho El Coyote, rm210.78. The course then winds north towards Valley de Trinidad, turning NorthWest at rm248.60 and then West at rm256.95. Shooting across to Highway 1 at K102, rm285.73, the course goes north on pavement to K96, rm289.86. At this point, the course winds West and then North for a sprint along the Pacific Ocean, turning back inland and NorthEast at rm330.50. At rm344.41, Highway 1, K51+, the course turns North at Santo Tomas, to Uruapan at K42, rm350.36 where it turns East to Tres Hermanos, rm 374.13. Leaving Tres Hermanos, the course heads north to Ojos Negros at rm 397.16 and back to Ensenada over the first 28.50 miles. Checkpoints: CK1-the Summit, rm88.29; CK2-Nuevo Junction, rm141.20; CK3-El Coyote, rm210.78; CK4-San Vincente, rm290.69; CK5-Ojos Negros, rm397.16.
