Twenty-Six of SCORE’s toughest racers still in hunt
Record starting fields in first three races; over 200 entries preparing for September’s 11th SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 LOS ANGELES?Followingg three of five races in the 2006 SCORE Desert Series, 26 of SCORE’s toughest drivers are still in the race to earn 2006 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards, In addition, three of those racers could split this year’s $12,000 SCORE Toyota True Grit Award. These racers will now join over 200 entries to compete in the 11th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300. Round 4 of the five-race 2006 SCORE Desert Series will be held Sept. 8-10, in Primm, Nev. Toyota is presenting these prestigious awards to the world’s toughest desert racers for the 21st consecutive year. The Toyota Milestone awards go to those drivers who finish every required mile of every race in the five-race 2006 SCORE Desert Racing Series, the World’s Foremost Desert Racing Series. “Toyota is proud to honor the world’s best desert racing drivers,” said Les Unger, national motorsports manager at Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. “For two decades, we have had the privilege of presenting the SCORE Toyota True Grit and Milestone Awards to the toughest racers on the planet.” The $12,000 SCORE Toyota Truce Grit bonus purse will be split among the point champions in the non-factory supported classes of Class 1-2/1600, Class 5, Class 10 and SCORE Lite. With no eligible drivers in Class 5, a total of 11 drivers in the remaining three classes remain in the running for the 2006 Toyota True Grit bonus purse. The 11th Annual SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300 will feature over 200 entries competing in 17 Pro and 2 Sportsman classes for cars and trucks in Primm, located 45 miles south of Las Vegas at the California border. This year’s starting list is expected eclipse last year’s record field of 198 starters. For the fifth consecutive year, the race will be split into two groups with the open wheel and VW baja bug classes starting at 6 a.m. The truck classes, including the featured SCORE Trophy-Truck division along with the unlimited Class 1 open-wheel class, will start at 1 p.m. One vehicle will start every 30 seconds in the elapsed-time race, with an eight-hour time limit. The start/finish line area is located 2.5 miles northeast of the rear of Buffalo Bill’s Resort. Pre-race festivities on Friday, Sept. 8, for the SCORE Las Vegas Primm 300, including tech and contingency and the SCORE Manufacturer’s Midway, will be held from Noon to 6 p.m. behind Buffalo Bill’s Resort. The post-race awards celebration will be held at the Star of the Desert Arena on Sunday (Sept. 10) at 9 a.m. After three races over rugged desert terrain in the U.S. and Mexico, 26 racers in 9 classes are still in the hunt for 2006 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards. Heading to Primm, the series has covered 760.63 dusty desert miles. SCORE Trophy-Truck, Class 1 and Class 1-2/1600 lead the way, so far, with five racers each still eligible for SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards. The final winners will be decided at the legendary 39th Tecate SCORE Baja 1000 (Nov. 15-18). The granddaddy of all desert races will be a peninsula run, starting in Ensenada and ending in La Paz. 2006 SCORE Toyota Milestone Awards
