G&R Racing Celebrates First Year in Trophy Truck Desert Racing
Mesa, Arizona (August 20, 2006) – Best In The Desert’s TSCO sponsored Vegas to Reno off road desert race marks the one year anniversary of racing in the elite Trick Truck class for Garron Cadiente and Ron Whitton.
Debuting in 2005 at the grueling summertime BITD Nevada 1000 race, Cadiente raced the #38 Geiser-built Trick Truck, side-by-side with the nation’s top off road desert racers, before suffering a devastating crash on the second day of the three day race. However, that did not detour the adventure seeker from charging forward. A little more than a month later, he crossed the finish line at the SCORE Primm 300 in 6th place.
One year later, the race team duo has gathered an impressive list of accomplishments. Cadiente captured victories in both the SCORE San Felipe 250, and then backed up his winning performance a few weeks later with a dominating victory at the BITD Terrible’s Town 250 in the Nevada desert.
Ron Whitton then took his #39 Geiser-built truck to the overall victory at the PRO Desert Series “Desert Rat 250” in Sonora, Mexico to record his first victory. G&R Racing has combined for 4 top five finishes and in addition, three first season victories. Both trucks combined have raced a total of 15 off road desert races and G&R Racing has finished in the top ten 12 of those 15 races.
“We’ve overcome some difficult challenges in this first year of truck racing, although we set our goals high. Winning three races in the first half of the season has us excited about the remainder of year. We just finished BITD Vegas to Reno race pre run fun trip with Casey and the course is set to be very fast. Looks to me like a whole lot of 120 mph sections and we’re ready to race,” said Garron.
Best In The Desert’s Vegas to Reno race is the longest point-to-point nonstop off road desert race in the United States. Held in torturous Nevada desert, the race runs through the entire state of Nevada, beginning in the southern half and racing to the north finishing in Reno, Nevada.
The past two-months have been dedicated to preparing the #38 G&R Race Truck for a full-assault in the Nevada desert. Prepped by Rick Geiser and his talented crew, the winning truck is nearly new after a complete remake of the truck by Geiser Fabrication.
G&R Team Manager Brian Godfrey explained, “The chase teams are ready and this past weekend we all had the chance to see the course for the first time. With the anticipated high speed of the race trucks on this fast course, pit strategy is going to play an important part of our strategic race plan. We expect to be a front runner throughout the race and our team has prepared for the many scenarios that may play a significant part in this race.”
