PHOENIX, AZ - After a long hiatus from desert racing, Martensen Motorsports is back. Ed Martensen, the Patriarch of Martensen Motorsports raced in the SCORE, HDRA, & MTEG series' in the 1980's and early 1990's before retiring. Now, Ed's son Rob has picked up where his father left off to take on the challenges of desert off-road racing. Beginning with this weekend's Best In The Desert Parker 425, Rob will be teamed with ace tranny builder and former class 5-1600 champion Rich Roberts, of Action Auto Racing Gearboxes, in the Robert's prepared Volkswagen powered Chenowth DRV-2. Martensen Motorsports will be competing in class 1100 for limited cc Volkswagen powered race vehicles. "I am very excited to be back behind the wheel again" said Rob, who has competed in the Super 1600 class in the now defunct MTEG and PACE stadium race series' along with numerous other types of racing including IMCA dirt modifieds, shifter karts, and dirt bikes. "I have been coming to desert races for as long as I can remember, first watching my father and later my uncle, Larry Ragland, compete. I knew my day would come, and it is finally here. I can't wait until this weekend." Rob would like to thank Steve's Quick Service/Shell, Action Auto Racing Gearboxes, Mendeola Transaxles, Weddle Industries, Geiser Brothers, and Foddrill Fabrication for all of their help to get us to this point. |
