Menzies Motorsports

Bryan Freeman & Brock Krahenbuhl in Single Buggy

For LIVE SPEED TV and NBC TV HD telecasts
from “The Rock Quarry”

LAS VEGAS—Continuing to lead the point standings in three classes where they have combined for 12 individual race wins in six races this year, Las Vegas’ Menzies Motorsports will field its solid six-driver, seven-vehicle team this weekend when the 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) makes its first of three visits this season to Chula Vista International Raceway near San Diego for Rounds 7 & 8 of the 16-race 2008 CORR Series.

Clearly the new race team on the block, Menzies Motorsports will bring its ‘Big Red Machine’ to San Diego County with hopes of making an impact at the picturesque race site in southeast Chula Vista known in racing circles as ‘The Rock Quarry’ and the home of CORR.

The active quarry is owned by the Baldwin family that owns CORR and has designed and developed a fan-friendly 9,000-seat purpose-built three-quarter mile dirt track that is as breathtaking in its beauty as it is challenging in its design of jumps, bumps, turns and whoops.
Rounds 7 and 8 of the CORR Series will both be televised live nationally-the first live telecasts of the series. A two-hour show from Round 7 is scheduled to air at 3 p.m. (PDT) Saturday on Speed TV and a one and one-half hour show from Round 8 is set to air at Noon (PDT) on Sunday on NBC. Both will be broadcast in high-definition. Gates open at 9 a.m. each day.

Led by veteran Rob MacCachren, who like the teams’ five other drivers is from Las Vegas, leads the points in both the Pro-2 and Pro Buggy divisions of CORR after six races. Menzies Motorsports will have an additional entry in Pro Buggy, two in Pro Lite and two in the Single Buggy class in San Diego.

Menzies’ Bryan Freeman leads the points in Single Buggy. After a six-week layoff, the Las Vegas racers are prepared for even greater challenges in every class while seeking to solidify their season point leads in those three classes and improve their standings in the Pro Lite class.

MacCachren, 43, the three-time AARWBA All-America Motorsports driver who has 67 career CORR race wins, will drive in two classes to lead the six Las Vegas drivers into the popular short-course series.

He has three race wins in Pro-2 in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150 and four wins and two seconds in Pro Buggy in the No. 921 BFG Tires Honda-powered AlumiCraft open-wheel desert race car.

The Menzies Motorsports lineup also includes fellow Southern Nevada desert racers Bryce Menzies, Bruce Fraley, Larry Job, Bryan Freeman and Brock Krahenbuhl in Chula Vista.

This weekend in Chula Vista, a closed test session will be held at CORR’s Chula Vista International Raceway.

Qualifying for Saturday for all classes will be held Friday afternoon. Qualifying for Sunday’s racing will be held Sunday morning.

“This break between races was so long, it’s almost like starting the season over again, except for the points,” said MacCachren, who also is the second driver for the No. 1 Rockstar/Makita Ford F-150 SCORE Trophy-Truck in the SCORE Desert Series. “We have tweaked some things on our vehicles and mentally I think we are getting tougher, especially after being shut out on the podium for the first time this season in our last race in Pomona (Round 6).”

“What is really shining through in our team is the commitment that our owner Steve Menzies has made to develop the best possible team. Not only has he provided the resources in equipment and facilities, he has worked diligently to see that whether it is behind the wheel or under the hood, we have the absolute finest people available. Round 6 was a reality check for us and the real test begins this weekend in Chula Vista to see how well we overcome adversity.”

Bryce Menzies, 20, is the son of team owner Steve Menzies. The 2007 CORR Rookie of the Year in Single Buggy (and season point champ), has moved up in class this year to Pro Lite and the younger Menzies started the year with a pair of sixth-place finishes and his currently 22nd in points after missing one race with a neck injury in his No. 7 Fox Shox Ford Ranger.

“After all the success we had last year in Single Buggy, my learning curve in Pro Lite is taking longer than I anticipated, but we are making progress despite some setbacks,” said Menzies, “I’m a rookie when it comes to driving a truck, I’m trying to be a quick learner, and I am part of a team with great teachers. When it is all said and done, though, I’m the one who has to get it done.”

Fraley, 42, a veteran desert racer and noted chassis builder, also races in Pro Lite, where he is ninth in points with a best finish of fifth in Round 5 in Pomona in the No. 12 MSD Ford Ranger. Like Bryce Menzies, Fraley is a rookie when it comes to competing in a race truck.

Job, 47, another veteran Southern Nevada desert racer, races in the Pro Buggy division for Menzies Motorsports in the No. 907 Mastercraft AlumiCraft-Honda. With a pair of fourth place finishes in Rounds 1 and 5, Job is currently seventh in the Pro Buggy point standings.

Both Freeman and Krahenbuhl race in the Single Buggy division for Menzies Motorsports where Freeman, 28, has won five races this year and qualifying first in all six races in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy Fraley-VW to lead the points in his class.

Krahenbuhl, 27, continues to improve with each race and has three third places and one second place (Round 5) so far to stand in third place in the Single Buggy points in the No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW.

With plans to expand the fleet of race vehicles even more in the near future, Menzies Motorsports is based out of a state-of-the-art 31,000-square foot race shop in southwest Las Vegas and the new team also has a test facility with a one-mile track southeast of Las Vegas which is laid out nearly identically to course at the Las Vegas International Off-Road Raceway in Primm, Nev.

Owned by Las Vegas contractor Steve Menzies, the team is making a major impact despite being only in its second season overall and first year with more than two drivers.

Prominent Kroyer Racing Engines of Las Vegas builds the Ford truck engines and the Honda Pro Buggy motors for Menzies Motorsports while Southern California’s FAT Performance builds the VW Single Buggy engines.

The chassis for the two Pro Buggy race cars were built by John Cooley’s AlumiCraft of Santee, Calif. while the chassis for the two Single Buggy race cars were built in Las Vegas by Menzies Motorsports’ driver Bruce Fraley.

While the AlumiCraft vehicles, somewhat similar to Class 10 cars in the desert, are new this season, the Fraley cars, somewhat similar to Class 1-2/1600 cars in the desert, were built for last season and finished 1-2 in the season class point standings with Bryce Menzies and Fraley driving.

With five Pro classes and several sportsman divisions for cars and trucks, the nationally-televised CORR Series features the top short-course desert racers in the world.
