Krahenbuhl qualifies second,
Freeman third in Single Buggy
For Saturday’s Round 11 of
2008 CORR Series at ‘The Quarry’

QUALIFYING:
Rob MacCachren 4th, Bryce Menzies 16th in Pro 2,
Menzies 13th & Bruce Fraley 14th in Pro Lite,
Larry Job 7th & MacCachren 24th in Pro Buggy,
Brock Krahenbuhl 2nd and
Bryan Freeman 3rd in Single Buggy
At Chula Vista International Raceway;
Saturday’s races LIVE on SPEED TV @ 2:30 p.m. (PT)

CHULA VISTA, Calif.—Struggling throughout Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions to overcome relatively minor mechanical issues among eight vehicles, Brock Krahenbuhl qualified second and Bryan Freeman third in Single Buggy to finish as the top qualifiers of the eight Menzies Motorsports entries for Saturday’s Round 11 of the 16-race 2008 Championship Off-Road Racing Series (CORR) at the Chula Vista International Raceway near San Diego.

Capacity crowds are once again expected as Round 11 of 2008 CORR Series will be held Saturday and Round 12 will be held Sunday at the 10,000-seat dirt raceway, which is also known commonly as ‘The Quarry’. Gates open at 9 a.m. and following practice sessions, racing begins at Noon. Qualifying for Sunday’s Round 12 will be held on Sunday morning.

Continuing to lead the point standings in three classes, Menzies Motorsports’ ‘Big Red Machine’ now has 18 individual race wins and 23 total podium finishes through the first 10 races of the 2008 CORR Series season. The team this weekend in Chula Vista includes six drivers, all from Las Vegas, competing in eight vehicles in four classes.

Rounds 11 and 12 of the CORR Series will both be televised nationally. A two-hour show from Round 11 is scheduled to air LIVE at 2:30 p.m. (PDT) Saturday on Speed TV and a one and one-half hour show from Round 12 is set to air at 11:30 a.m. (PDT) on Sunday, Oct. 5 on NBC.

Menzies Motorsports’ Bryan Freeman leads the points in Single Buggy.

Krahenbuhl, 27, continues to improve with each race and has two second places and three third places so far to stand in third place in the Single Buggy points in the No. 312 KMC Fraley-VW. Friday, he qualified second for Saturday’s race in a time of 1 minute, 5.598 seconds at 45.95mph, the highest qualifying position for Menzies Motorsports for Round 11 of the 2008 CORR Series.

Freeman, 28, has won eight races this year and qualified first in nine of 11 races in the No. 307 Nevada Off-Road Buggy Fraley-VW to lead the points in his class. On Friday, a spark plug wire came lose but he still managed to qualify third in 1:04.823.

Reflecting the frustration felt by the team that has had at least one top qualifier in every race this season veteran Rob MacCachren, who like the teams’ other five drivers is from Las Vegas, leads the points in both the Pro 2 and Pro Buggy divisions of CORR after 10 races.

He has five race wins, one second and one third in Pro-2 in the No. 21 Rockstar Ford F-150 and four wins and two seconds in Pro Buggy in the No. 921 BFG Tires Honda-powered AlumiCraft open-wheel desert race car.

On Friday, he qualified fourth in Pro 2 with a time of 55.546 seconds at 53.14mph but a malfunctioning carburetor relegated him to 24th in the 25-car field in Pro Buggy.

Always the philosophical professor in analyzing a day at the race track, MacCachren was frustrated and hopeful at the same time.

“Getting mad won’t help things, it just might make you make mistakes, which we certainly don’t need right now,” said MacCachren, who is looking for his 70th career short-course race win this weekend at ‘The Quarry’. “Our crew has a lot of work to do tonight to figure things out and make the right adjustments for tomorrow and all of us drivers have to focus on taking it one turn at a time and not try and win any race on the first lap.”

The Menzies Motorsports lineup also includes fellow Southern Nevada desert racers Bryce Menzies, Bruce Fraley and Larry Job. The team’s newest driver, veteran desert racer Cameron Steele of San Clemente, Calif., is a backup this weekend and will be a regular team driver in 2009.

Bryce Menzies, 21, is the son of team owner Steve Menzies and qualified 16th in his second race in Pro 2 and 13th in Pro Lite. The 2007 CORR Rookie of the Year in Single Buggy (and season point champ), has moved up in class this year to Pro Lite and the younger Menzies had his best weekend of the year in July’s visit to Chula Vista, finishing second in Round 7 and first in Round 8 in his No. 7 Fox Shox Ford Ranger. He is currently 14th in points despite missing two races with minor injuries. In Round 9 in Pomona, Calif., Menzies made a strong Pro 2 debut in his No. 7 Menzies Motorsports Ford F-150 with a solid ninth-place finish.

Fraley was third fastest in morning practice sessions but carburetor problems caused him to struggle to a 14th qualifying position in Pro Lite in the No. 12 MSD Ford Ranger.

Qualifying seventh in Pro Buggy, Job, 47, another veteran Southern Nevada desert racer, drives the No. 907 Mastercraft AlumiCraft-Honda. With one second place (Round 9) and one third place (Round 7), Job is currently seventh in the Pro Buggy point standings.
