Got a rumor? Want to know the answer?
Just let me know...
I'm always happy to stick my nose somewhere...
Pokey Page: << 1 - 2 - 3 >>

Rumor:
Parker 425 to use a new starting order format...

Response:
Best in the Desert has announced plans to run starting order time trials at the Parker 425...
The results will determine the starting order of the first 20 vehicles to leave the starting line regardless of vehicle class... This new format addresses concerns raised by racers and provides every team an opportunity to be one of the first vehicles off the starting line...
Time trails will be run over a predetermined course...

Rumor:
Shea Road camping area to be open during the Parker 425...

Response:
Yes... BLM designated Shea Road as a spectator area many years ago and would like to see the area utilized by the public...

Rumor:
DesertRacing.com is about to offer a new patented DesertRacing cool suit...

Response:
TRUE... DesertRacing.com has been researching and testing this product over the past several months... The product currently holds
3 U.S. patents and will be available soon...

For more information, contact DesertRacing.com @ 928.680.0884...

Rumor:
Whiplash has finally secured the required BLM permits to run the Parker 400 in 2003...

Response:
NOT TRUE... Once again we have discussed this rumor with the BLM office responsible for handling the permits for this event and have been advised that as of this morning @ 11:15am 8/01/02 Whiplash DOES NOT have an application on file...

Note: Currently BLM has ONLY TWO APPLICATIONS on file and they are for the Best in the Desert Motorcycle & Quad Race to be held during January 2003 and the Best in the Desert Parker 425 to be held during Febuary 2003...

Rumor:
Marty Fiolka is building a new web site...

Response:
True... Marty is building a new web site for Danny Porter @ www.PorterRaceCars.com... The new site will also include a couple of virtual tours produced by DesertRacing.com...

Rumor:
There is a new DesertRacing T-shirt in the works...

Response:
True... The shirts will be available at this weekend's Inaugural SCORE Henderson's Terrible 250... Just stop by the Racers-Only booth to get yours... Or if your unable to attend the race this weekend just give us a call next week @ 928.680.0884 and we'll hook you up...

Rumor:
NASCAR's Gordon & Harvick to race Baja...

Response:
True...Gordon and Harvick are currently working on plans to enter the race and Richard Childress has also expressed an interest in racing Baja with them... Team Gordon will be running a Chevy Powered Trophy Truck utilizing one of the RCR Busch series engines...

Rumor:
An unnamed sponsor (Fortune 1000) and team (racing SCORE & BITD) are currently discussing a major sponsorship opportunity for the 2003 season...

Response:
True... While we do know both parties involved, we will not release the information at this time to protect negotiations from outside interference...
Note to potential sponsor... don't forget Pokey wants some...

Rumor:
Whiplash has filed for and been granted a BLM permit to run
the 2003 Parker 400...

Response:
False... Just got off the phone with the BLM Office responsible for handling this permit and was advised "Whiplash DOES NOT HAVE AN APPLICATION ON FILE" as of 2pm 6/18/02...

Rumor:
***Update*** Whiplash has secured the required letters of endorsements from all local Parker entities that is required prior to BLM issuing a permit for the Parker 400...

Response:
Not True... Our sources advise that as of this morning 6/18/02 no Parker entity "HAS ISSUED A LETTER OF ENDORSEMENT"...
***NOTE: BLM relies heavily upon this endorsement when reviewing an application to run an event...

Rumor:
Casey Folks @ Best in the Desert, Approached Parker asking to put on or take over the Historic Parker 400...
  Response:
This rumor is just that and is far from the actual truth about what happened... A group of movers and shakers in Parker got together looking for a solution to help resolve numerous complaints and concerns about previous Parker 400 events in an effort to insure that Parker, BLM and CRIT retained the communities support for this very popular event... The determination was made that they would approach Casey Folks @ BEST IN THE DESERT and ask Casey to make a presentation to Parker... Casey initially declined the invitation, and only agreed to visit Parker after repeated request from Parker's group of movers & shakers...

Rumor:
Shea Road was closed to spectators during the running of the
Parker 400 by BLM...
  Response:
Everyone fell victim to this rumor and were very upset with BLM for the closure... However we just recently learned that this very popular area was actually closed by Jay McKinley @ Whiplash... It is also our understanding that BLM offered to supply the manpower needed to keep this popular area open, but would require Whiplash to pay a minimal fee to cover the extra manpower... (around $1,400-1,500.00)

Rumor:
Whiplash has Parker & BLM's approval and all required permits
to run the Parker 400 in 2003...
  Response:
NOT EVEN TRUE... and we are very disappointed that a promoter would send out such an announcement touting set dates, while knowing otherwise... this type of misinformation only creates confusion and problems amongst the racers and spectators...
enough said...

Rumor:
BEST IN THE DESERT Parker 425 entry fees are to high for
the nonprofessional limited class racer...
  Response:
This issue is being addressed at this time and they are developing a new entry fee structure that will help accommodate the smaller limited class air cooled engine race teams... Anyone who has never attended a BITD race as a spectator or racer, should attend at least one, the atmosphere is one of pure excitement...

Rumor:
Pee-Wee Racing will be part of the BEST IN THE DESERT Parker 425
  Response:
YES... Pee-Wee Racing is very popular with the local Parker community, the details are being finalized... For more information, contact the Parker Area Chamber of Commerce @ 928.669.2174...

Rumor:
Robby Gordon & Johnny Kaiser form new wheel company...

Response:
Team Gordon Racing Products was created by Robby Gordon and good friend Johnny Kaiser to produce a new line of desert racing and street wheels. Current production includes a new 17" Trophy Truck racing wheel, a 17" street version of the Trophy Truck wheel, and a 15" VW desert racing wheel...

Both Team Fortin & Team Wilson will be running these new wheels in the upcoming BitD "Nevada 1000". Current plans call for Johnny to be available @ tech to answer questions regarding the new wheels. However, with a pressing NASCAR schedule, Johnny's plans may change...

Rumor:
Steve Sourapas is building a new Trophy truck

Response:
True, Porter Race Cars, out of Riverside, California is building this TT and it's 50% complete. Look for an upcoming feature and virtual tour on this vehicle...
